It has an automatic negative reaction for me (as a lady), but the word itself is kinda ugly. A spike is congruent with something that can hurt you.

The very last thing you want to accomplish is to exacerbate making a mockery of this. Therefore there should be no play on words, puns, witticisms., etc. Call it exactly what it is, a lethal injection. I've had the same argument and stance with people referring to the 2020 election as being stolen. All you do by using language like this is lower the intellectual caliber of your argument. Saying they cheated is tantamount to elementary school children fighting and conjures up that exact image. When was the last time an adult accused someone of cheating? Seriously? Call it exactly what it was - the most corrupt election in the history of this Country! Once again the same holds true for FAKE news. Jesus H. Christ could we possibly get any more ignorant and juvenile? It's called propaganda - NOT misinformation! Trump started all this bullshit and it made everything worse. When you use language like this you become your own worst enemy!

I am helping my husband put together a supplementary report for his "failure to accommodate religious objections" grievance, for which his union has abandoned him. I alternately use the term gene therapeutics, gene serums, gene products or mRNA serums. I site the Moderna CEO and other papers laying out that they are exactly that, including the securities filing from Moderna (p.28) which states "Currently, mRNA is considered a gene therapy product by the FDA." (credit to Lioness of Judah for bringing this to my attention). If I am referring to their policy, I will use their language (vaccine) put I put it in quotations.
Having said all of this, the past year plus has made me re-think vaccines in general. It appears that the term "anti-vaxxer" was intended to connote "crazy" such that the rest of us would not look too hard at what was being pushed. If I had to do it over again, there are many more questions I would be asking. I would at this point take a rabies shot if exposed or tetanus, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to submit to any others.

Fully agree about the framing, Doctor. For that reason, I've been referring to the "prophylactics," Mrna therapies" and the "mass human trials" from the beginning. Aside from maintaining accuracy of speech as a means of ordering my own thoughts, this nomenclature expresses my position, which is that it is unwise to credulously accept the motivated reasoning of people whose only moral compass is utilitarian.
Still, you make a good point about how "sticky" an appellation must be, in order to become widely used. I would prefer a neutral term over one obviously pejorative, mainly because it's a minority of the indoctrinated that are impervious to all reason.

sadly, I did indeed get the first two pfyser shots. I was pressured into it. The whole pandemic put a lot of new anxiety on me. I am my fathers caregiver, AND my hubbs was having open heart surgery (sigh) my daddy is 98 and lives in a fancy community that shut out any visitors. I have been takng care of him since 2013, with mom, and then mom died in 2016. So now he kind of needed me more.
Anyway, I woke up the next morning after shot number two, completely crumpled in a stiff ball with very bad heart burn. Over the past 11 months, I still woke up stiff every morning just got worse and worse. At present, I have been tentatively dx with hashimotos or rheumatoid arthritis. not only that but for the past 5 years I have my right ovary scanned bc it has a cyct on it, my choice to have it scanned. Every year it comes back okay Last year the radiologist noticed some increase in size. This year.... well, there is a new circumscribed nodule found. I am going to a surgeon on Wednesday.
Obviously, I am not getting any more spike shots. I am 67. No history of cancer in my family, or thyroid problems either. So this past year has been a shit show.
Oh yeah, my thyroid! I had a biopsy done last week on some nodule they found on my thyroid. (gosh that was a terrible procedure, shooting pain in my ears up to my brains! I still have a headache from it)
