It is excruciatingly frustrating for me that the makers of the almost-amazing Oppenheimer film failed to consult with Peter Kuznick, a friend, colleague, brilliant nuclear historian, professor, and director of American University’s Nuclear Studies Institute
It seems too often film makers craft their scripts to portray simple black and white perspectives for the mass market. Even in Oppenheimer, where there is a gray area to consider, the nuances and back story contexts have also been rewritten to keep the viewer on track to a preferred narrative. History books are written by the winners. Unpleasant details are left out or reframed. If you do any historical research using Wikipedia, you'll get the approved narrative, messy details deleted! Thanks Diane for sharing this insight from Peter.
Thank you Diane, for this very important and enlightening interview with Peter Kuznick. People need to realize that there was no justification for dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki other than to advance US hegemony and fuel the lethal arms race.
