Raising Consciousness about the Coup in Peru
March 2 Vigil at the Peruvian Embassy in DC
Yesterday I attended a vigil in front of the Peruvian Embassy in DC. I was not very knowledgeable about this issue. I just wish to raise consciousness about the Coup of a left -wing democratically elected president in Peru, killing of dissidents and silence of US Congress in undermining democracy and allowing corporate control.
Here is a statement
The Women’s Internationalist Front for Justice and Peace based in the United States strongly condemns the coup d’etat against the democratically elected President of Peru, Pedro Castillo, since 7 December 2022, as well as the repression unleashed on the Peruvian people in resistance since then, which has already caused the deaths of over 60 people.
We echo the legitimate demands of the Peruvian people:
1. The immediate resignation of the usurper, Dina Boluarte
2. Freedom and reinstatement of President Pedro Castillo
3. Close the corrupt Congress
4. Start preparations for a Constituent Assembly to draft a new constitution.
US government stop supporting the de facto government!
Stop the interference!
The world demands:
End the repression of our Quechua and Aymara brothers and sisters in Peru!
Here are two articles
Coup in Peru: President Pedro Castillo overthrown by conservative Congress
Peru’s opposition-controlled Congress approved the impeachment motion against Pedro Castillo after he decreed its temporary dissolution and called for fresh parliamentary elections. Hours later, he was arrested December 8, 2022
Majority of Peruvians disapprove of the Dina Boluarte regime, says survey
Despite over twelve weeks of mass protests and widespread rejection, Boluarte refuses to resign, while unleashing brutal repression against peaceful protests

Castillo the left wing was thrown out. I am not very knowledgable. I included links to 2 articles from People's Dispatch that describe it.
Hi.
The usurper, or the one who has taken power illegally, is Dina Boluarte. She was Pedro Castillo's Vice President. She seems to be very unpopular, and the people of Peru call her brutal.
Pedro Castillo was their President elect. He won the popular vote but V.P. Dina Boluarte had him arrested when he tried to declare a new emergency Government, including a new Congress.
Is any Country doing well ANYWHERE?
